I’ve said goodbye so many times in the past several weeks that I just simply don’t want to say it anymore. How do you say goodbye to something that you’ve enjoyed so much?
I think I’d rather say what a pleasure it’s been being a part of this project and getting to know you all. This has been an amazing experience for me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve turned to this blogsite for comfort in the past few months. When Ruth suggested I join this project I never thought it would be so rewarding. Thank you Clare and Stacy Jill for allowing me to be a “Voice”.
I am thrilled to have developed an on-line circle of friends and hope that circle continues to grow. You will find me at Learning to Walk in Stilettos.

I need to get this out of my head before something happens to stifle my mojo again. I’m not saying it’s back, but this is just so worth blogging about that…well here you be the judge.
I went to the grocery store today to buy lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers and kidney beans for tonight’s dinner…you guessed it Taco Salad. I usually don’t pay much attention to prices (sorry Mom, I know you are cringing right now) because well quite frankly if you need something you buy it. Well, I’m really glad that I was paying attention today, because the first head of lettuce that I picked up was already marked (usually they aren’t marked, you take them up to the girl, she weighs them and puts the price sticker on) 42000 byr. I had a friend with me so I asked, “Does this say 42000″, her reply “Yep”. Now I know why this head of lettuce was already priced. Someone obviously wasn’t interested in paying $19.53 cents for a head of lettuce and I don’t blame them but you can’t have Taco Salad without lettuce. Tonight is game night and Taco Salad is on the menu so I searched for a lighter head (x2).
Here’s a picture of the lettuce…
27107 Belarusian rubles…any idea how much that is in US $, well let me tell you $12.50 (give or take a few cents)…..TWELVE DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS! FOR LETTUCE! ICE BERG LETTUCE, water basically. There better not be one rust spot on this lettuce.
After inspecting the label carefully I think that I’ve figured out why this lettuce is so expensive. The part of the label you can’t see clearly says product of SPAIN. This label, in Russian says “Fresh Salad Imported from the Netherlands”. My suggestion, why not buy lettuce grown in Spain, from Spain?
So there you have it…a mojo moment, captured and blogged about so not to be forgotten. You’ve got to love the absurdity of Belarus.

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while! Thanks Wineymomma for posting, it made my day!

A few days ago I wrote that I needed to find my “blogging mojo” so that I could get my final post written for Thirty Voices. Truth be told, I need to find my mojo period. These last few weeks have been stressful and it has me in a real funk.
I’ve been trying really hard to pull myself out of it. I thought that mail day would help. The grommets I’ve been waiting for came in and I was able to complete the bag for my HSKS4 partner. The bag is so cute. The perfect size for a lunch or small knitting project. I really like it and want to make one for myself. Working on the bag totally made me forget about everything that is going on here and it was good to focus on something fun for a while. Here’s a picture of the bag.
I’m pleased with the way it turned out, and I’m even more pleased that I’ll be able to get this package out before the deadline. WHEW!
Luckily there is always something going on in the Ravelry community so I’ve got another swap that just started “Four Seasons Spring Swap” and I’m also in the “Dancing With the Stars Swap”. This one is kind of interesting. Each participant is assigned to a dance couple. When your couple is eliminated you are out, BUT the person assigned to the couple who wins gets to pick an item of his/her choice up to $15 from EACH of the other participants…THAT’s 11 goodies! Ooh I hope I win…I haven’t been paired up yet, but that should happen this weekend. I missed the girls show last week with all the chaos around here. So far my favorite couple is Cheryl and Cristian.
This was actually a good TV week on AFN. All of my favorite shows are on AFN right now which may be where my mojo has disappeared to. I have American Idol, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, the Bachelor (and Lost which I’m trying not to watch because I haven’t finished Season 3 yet!) So you see, there are only so many hours in a day. I’ve been working LONG hours because of the situation here, I come home late (7ish) and have to cook dinner, while that’s happening I catch up on email and then eat, veg in front of the TV (I have been working on Emilie’s baby gift) and then pass out somewhere around 1am. No wonder I don’t feel like blogging!
I’m going to catch up now with a few friends and then I’m going to take a NAP!

My part-time position has turned in to a temporary full time position with all of craziness surrounding the American community here. I’m feeling a little like a fish out of water given that today was my third day on the job and I really have no clue what I should be doing.
It’s no secret that we have been asked to reduce the number of American staff here in Belarus. The decision has been made who those people will be and now those of us staying in Belarus are trying our best to focus attention on getting these people, their families and belongings to their next destination. I guess there really is no right or wrong way to tackle this daunting task. Tomorrow I’m just going to jump in with both feet and do what I can for these people.
Coming from a military family and marrying in to a military family you become accustomed to people coming in and out of your life, but I don’t think anything I’ve ever experienced before could have possibly prepared me for all this.
The next couple of weeks are going to be interesting so stay tuned!

I haven’t felt much like blogging lately. I have been spending a lot of time on the computer, but just not in the blog world. Ravelry takes up a LOT of my time. I’ve been trying to find things to knit with all this yarn that I’ve accumulated. Now that spring is officially here I feel like knitting something to wear other than socks. I’m thinking a tank or lightweight sweater will be nice. Problem is, I don’t think I have enough yarn which means…I’ll have to order more~ : )
The political environment between the US and Belarus has been interesting lately. We’ve definitely had an interesting week. That’s all I’ll say about that for now, but I’m sure if you do a search in Google News on “Belarus” you’ll find some articles to bring you up to speed.
In the swapping world things in my HSKS4 are winding down. I’m just waiting on the grommets to come in to finish my partners bag and then I can get her package in the mail. This swap was a little too “over the top” for my tastes. There hasn’t been as much interaction as I’d have liked between me and my partner or the house I was sorted in to. Not sure if I’ll be returning to Hogwarts next semester.
Tomorrow is my official first day at the new job and with so much going on around here right now, I’m sure it’s bound to be interesting! Wish me luck!
I promise to visit all of my blog buddies this week and I need to find my blog mojo and get my final post up on Thirty Voices.
