Yesterday’s mail proved to be one of the best mail days we’ve had in a LONG time. I had a lot of great packages, I’ll give you a brief description of the “loot”.
1. XMas present from the in-laws. A Belgian waffle maker with the waffle fix-ins. YUMM! Also a Buckeye’s shirt for Scott…maybe he’ll throw that nasty Dover one away now?
2. Package from my friend Jen which included the fixing for a taco dinner. Also included was some salsa and some Mac n Cheese. Thanks Jen! You ROCK…but not as hard as me…why?
3. ROCK BAND! It finally arrived and I couldn’t wait to get it out of the box. I didn’t realize that I ordered the version that came with the microphone, the guitar and the drums, but I did and yesterday evening Scott and I ROCKED the Wii! LOL. It was so much fun. I was the lead singer and Scott was on guitar (started on drums, but quickly gave that up). Here’s a picture of our best effort…not to shabby for amateurs. I see many RockBand Jams in the Smart household future.
Scott’s out with the fella’s tonight so I’m home alone, and I went on the Solo Tour tonight. I must say that even solo the game is a lot of fun. Sadly, I think I rocked it a little to hard last night though because my hamstrings are a little tight today! LOL.
4. Packages from home – one package that I was instructed to put under the tree, unopened…it says fragile. Hmm…thinking. The other contained all of the rest of the Christmas presents. It was a BIG BOX! Lots of goodies under the tree…GOODIE!
5. Present for Max from Sooner and Java Kuzcynski. Those dogs always think about Max and Max never sends them anything. I guess it would be different if Max could actually go shopping and if they actually sold dog treats here, but again…dogs are not pets in this country…anyway, Max loves his package. He already opened it and has consumed almost half the contents.
6. HSKS6 package! A very tired owl, the Finch-Fletchley family owl, Nemesis arrived today with my swap package all the way from Oregon. I have been anxiously awaiting this owl’s arrival. I tore in to the package almost immediately, and was thrilled with what I found inside. First I must say that Andromeda did a super job of nailing my likes~! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my package…so here’s a picture
Where to start? Well duh, with the bag of course. I LOVE this bag. it is a Ravenclaw bag in book colors. I love the strap and I used the bag today. I can put the strap across my body and wear it like a messenger bag. It’s awesome and I have been wanting this bag for a while. Now I don’t have to knit it for myself! Clockwise from the bag are Knit Picks 40″ cables to add to my set. Then a tin of Green Apple mints – Knitting Girl of course. Next is an awesome bookmark. I wish I was reading a book…I have a Janet Evanovich…I just may have to start that so that I can use the bookmark. Next, stitch markers in Ravenclaw colors of course, then a set of size 9 needles. I think for the scarf that I’ll be making with the Paton’s Soy Wool Stripes….Andromeda sent three awesome patterns, one of them being the Pallindrome Scarf which Jessicahas convinced me that I MUST KNIT! It’s cables, it will be good practice for that sweater that I still haven’t started. Next in line there is a bag of candy, including some Tootsie Rolls which wont’ be around much longer. Also a Hogwart’s certificate with my name Bella Shacklebolt! LOVE IT.
Now, I know you’re wondering, what about that fuzzy blue thing…well, his name is Earl. I LOVE Earl. Earl is my new pal. He sits on my desk watching intently while I blog. Here’s a pic…
Don’t you just love him. In the “package” picture I hadn’t quite figured out that he had a face. I thought those brown things were his eyes, turns out they are his feet so in the “package” picture, he’s laying on his back! Sorry Earl.
Last but not least, and not pictured is a dishcloth/washcloth. It is in Ravenclaw book colors and the best way to describe it is a brick wall. I know that there is a name for the pattern, but I can’t remember what it is. The bricks are blue and the grout is bronze. I think I may have to fight Scott for this….unless I make him his own.
So there it is…my wonderful HSKS6 package. What a great semester. Ravenclaw won the House Cup for the first time in HSKS history AND I have a wonderful package to boot!
Good mail day.
February 13, 2008
It was supposed to be Wordless Wednesday, but I don’t think that’s going to work out so well for me since Wednesday is also mail day. Today was an AWESOME mail day. I received 3 packages that I’ve been waiting for and one from mom which usually means food!
The first package was a little treat to myself, my favorite fragrance Amazing Grace. I was almost out of most of the items I use shampoo/body gel, body lotion and perfume so a few weeks ago I decided to buy myself a special treat. It arrived today.
The second package was the yarn for my HSKS4 partner’s bag. I’m still not totally sold on the color that I picked for bronze (she’s a book color Ravenclaw) so I’m still on the lookout for the perfect bronze. I do like the blue that I chose so I’m at least almost ready to start the bag. I’m hoping to be able to find a better bronze, but if not I at least have one that I think is OK. I’m going to felt the bag so the color is going to change a little anyway.
Package three from my mom had some yummy goodies, pretzels, Lipton Onion Soup mix, dried fruit, tea, hot cocoa mix, graham crackers and a pair of socks! Hand knit, merino to keep me nice and warm on those cold walks with Max.
And last but not least……drum roll please! My box from my Hot Cocoa Swap partner. Ok, I’ll admit that I thought it was from my Valentine Swap partner because the return address label had hearts on it! LOL. We are supposed to wait until the 14th to open those packages…..UM, I couldn’t wait. I tore in to that package as soon as I saw the label. Here’s what was inside.
Lot of good stuff! Peppermint flavored lip butter, apple pies, apple bars, yarn themed buttons, cute stitch markers, a great springy project bag (with fruit all over it – love it) with notions holder and some wonderful Hazel Knits sock yarn in the Chuckanut Drive colourway! It’s great. Nice bright colors. Individually I would probably steer away from most of the colors in this yarn, but together with the dark plum color it works. I can’t wait to see how it knits up. I think this will definitely be the next pair of socks I cast on! And last but not least, two different kinds of cocoa. I’m having a hard time trying to decide which one to try first, but I think I’m most intrigued by the Wondercocoa
Here’s an up-close of the yarn
The stitch markers
and the cocoa
This one says low fat, kosher and organic (it even has the USDA Organic symbol). There is a super sounding banana shake recipe on the side that I think I may have to sample in the very NEAR future. As in tomorrow as soon as I walk up to the store and buy bananas.
Thanks Rhoda G! Wonderful box, I love it and it came on a day that needed some blah busting.
Oh, and Scott got his BOSE sound system. I wonder what’s next on his list of expensive man toys?

Today was a bad mail day! The only package I received was from the United States Postal Service – the flat rate envelopes I ordered. I am anxiously awaiting 2 packages! The first is my package from the Swap-bot Silver/Grey swap which probably wasn’t even mailed until today and the second is my Potter Covers yarns. Those should have been here today…I was hoping they would be here today! I want to start knitting another pair of socks as soon as this pair is off the needles.
I also realized today that I don’t really have any sock needles. I have two sets of double points (size 4 and size 2) and one circular, size 4. I hope I can find a patter I like that uses one of these two size needles! If my swap partners are reading this, I guess one thing you could add to my wish list…more sock needles. I don’t care for the blue sky wooden ones I have (my size 2′s), they splinter (and they are WAY to expensive).
I’m off to finish that sock…still!

The weather here has been snowy and wet over the past two weeks and poor Max has been getting so dirty that I have to wipe him down every time we come in from a walk. Scott said today on the way out the door “Max could use a bath”. I took that to mean, Jenn give Max a bath. This picture is taken just after I said, “Max do you want a bath?”
Notice the look of horror on the little man’s face? Poor fella. He was so traumatized by the scrubdown that he crawled up in the linen closet and took an hour long nap. Look at the poor thing. He barely fits in there.
Well, as I mentioned yesterday today was a big day. Mail day! I must say I was pleasantly surprised that a few things arrived already. There were a few things for my Silver/Grey Swap partner. One more item and her box is ready to go and my first swap will be fulfilled. The yarn came today and I must say it is beautiful. I can’t give you anymore information or it will totally ruin the surprise for her if she’s reading this, but I wish I would have ordered some for myself, it’s that nice.
My knitting needles for the Christmas project came! Now I can get working on that and hopefully have it finished in time.
My friend Debbie and her mom Lynn sent me two incredible Christmas ornaments. Lynn (Arts-Amore-A) is an artist and these are handpainted by her.
The boat is of course a Shrimp boat, since we just moved from Sneads Ferry, NC home of the Shrimp Festival. Handpainted on the back is Sneads Ferry, 2007. The second ornament is very pretty. It is green, red and white painted on the inside (I think), very nice and they are both hanging proudly on our tree.
And this arrived today
I signed up for the Christmas Yarn Exchange through Pick Up Sticks. You order a skein of yarn and you get a skein of yarn. The skein you purchase is delivered to someone else. So, I know who ordered my yarn, but I don’t know what she’s ordered yet. I haven’t peeked inside. The package is really pretty. It’s a green velvet bag with candy canes and bows. On the inside of the card it gives the email address of the person who ordered the yarn so that I can email her to let her know my package arrived, and how I like it.
We also received some nice Christmas cards. It’s so nice to get a handwritten note, with today’s internet you don’t get many handwritten letters/cards anymore.
And finishing off today’s mail were the 12 Days of Christmas mugs to go with the plates that I ordered on Ebay about a month ago, and a big box from my in-laws. There’s bound to be some goodies from Grandma Church in there. YUM.
We had friends over to play RISK tonight and it was a lot of fun. It looks like Wednesday is not not only Mail Day, but Game Night. And on that note, I’m beat and going to bed.
