I’ve been a bad bad girl, and because of that I am putting myself on a fiber restriction. What could I have done that could be so bad? Well, today I got the bright idea to update my Ravelry profile to show all of my current yarn stash. It’s easier to have it all entered in the computer because then when I go to enter a project I don’t have to worry about entering all the data, I can just import it…anyway, I digress.
I had NO IDEA I had that much yarn. How did that happen? Where did it come from? When did it happen? LOL.
Seriously, I can’t justify spending another dime on fiber of any type for the rest of the year. Of course I’m going to have to figure a way out of that statement because I plan on attending the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May and I know there will be all kinds of tempation there. Ok, that being said, the only place that I will spend money of fiber of any kind is at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I’d also like to add this clause – I may also purchase any type of fiber in any NEW country that I may visit! : ) There, that should cover it! : )
SO for those of you that are wondering just how bad it is…
According to Ravelry, that’s 77+ (I still haven’t entered the stuff on top of the totes or the fleece) stashed items. I know for a fact that there are more skeins than that because some yarns I have more than one skein. That’s just 77 different yarns…LOL. Again, how, where, when, why?
Now, I realize that I don’t have a leg up on some of you “stashers” out there. And I certainly haven’t gone to this extreme. It all fits nice and neatly into one of the closets in my bedroom. Except for those two rubbermaid containers. Those sit out, tacky I know but they fit nicely in the space right by the door to the room. Besides, I’m moving soon and they be packed up anyway!
Now, I’ve got to get all that yarn put back in to the closet before Scott gets home. He’d really have a cow if he knew just exactly how much yarn I have! : )
How much yarn is in your stash?
August 11, 2008
Well, I’m not sure what I did differently today than I did every other time I attempted to upload the pictures from my camera, but whatever it was worked.
SO, here are some pictures to show what I’ve been up to lately.
First of all I received the most AWESOME package from my Hogwarts Sock Kit Swap 5 partner - Allitrya Spelling, aka Lacee. She really put a lot of time and effort in to making sure that I had an awesome package. She paid really close attention to details from my blog and questionnaire and the result is FABULOUS. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the package that she put together for me. Here’s a picture
I know, I know. I’m a lucky girl. Just look at all that stuff, Harry Potter themed candy, gum (my favorite – Trident Splash), peanut butter (JIF of course), and popcorn – just a few of the things that I miss from home that are hard to come by (without shelling out a small fortune) here in Baku. Then there is a tape measure, blocking pins, some handmade by Allitrya stich markers and row marker/earrings, two pairs of Knit Picks Harmony needles (I’m really going to try these two socks at once! REALLY), a stitch book “50 Fabulous Knit Stitches” for me to attempt some new stitches (maybe dishcloths or washcloths), a folder called “Bella’s Spells” which is full of patterns for me to knit socks. The patterns she included are Phineas, Bellatrix (pattern on Ravelry), Nagini (pattern on Ravelry), Fawkes (pattern on Ravelry) and Such a Slytherin (pattern on Ravlery). All of them are great and I am going to attempt the Phineas first. The patterns are all nice and Slytheriny (except for Fawkes of course) as this was my house this semester. She even included a Slytherin pin which I am going to display proudly on my HAND FELTED bag. The above picture doesn’t do it justice.
Neither does this picture really, but you can see the pattern and colors which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. The bag itself is large enough (it’s probably 10″x10″) for me to carry as a purse or to hold a knitting project like my Clapotis or a pair of socks as well as my wallet and sunglasses. She also gave me a skein yarn by one of my favorite indie dyers – Cosmic Fibers. This is a skein of Slytherin in 3rd year which if knitted in regular knit stitch will stripe in the trapped-bar pattern. I’m going to do it up just like that (I think).
And last but not least – my WEBKINZ Turtle. LOL. I have been wanting this little girl for a while now and my wait is over. She has been officially adopted and her name is Testudia (I’m a Terp afterall)!
So, after totally bombing out in HSKS4, I gave it another go and was taken care of VERY VERY well by my spoiler! Thanks so much Lacee! Hope to see you for HSKS6!
In other knitting news, I’m making good progress on the Baby Surprise Jacket that I’m knitting for the Ravelympics. I’ll finish, but the thing isn’t going to fit the kid I intended for it to fit! Oh, well. I guess I’ll just have to buy more yarn….SHUCKS! LOL. I really do need to start swatching.
This picture is from last night, I think around row 47….
I’m on 58 now and hope to get up to the neck section tonight (Row 74). It’s a lofty goal for me, but I think I can manage. The Olympics will be on, my dear husband will be engrossed, so I should be able to knit peacefully. I think I’m about halfway finished so I will definitely be able to finish this before the end of the games, which means I’ll be able to pick back up on the Clapotis.
Now, this is a project that I am conflicted with. My mom gave me the yarn for my birthday with the Clapotis in mind. I hate the name of that scarf, but I like the way it looks so I figured I’d give it a go. I am about 30% finished with it in this picture and 40% now. I’m at the 4th dropped stitch set. By the way, dropping stitches on purpose is FUN! I especially like watching the ladder GROW. I still have my lifeline in so when I’m finished knitting and go to take it out I’m going to have lots more ladder watching to do.
The yarn has pink in it which I’m not crazy about, the purple dye isn’t set well so as I knit my fingers turn purple, but I love the purple, and the blue and I love the pattern so I’m going to continue to knit this damn thing purple fingers, funky pink and all! Besides, I have blocking pins now and I need to use them for something so I might as well try them out on the Clapotis.
SO that’s what I’ve been up to. Now, it’s almost time for dinner, Mustardy Fried Chicken, Greens, Mac and Cheese! YUMMO!
December 19, 2007
Today I spent some time logging my yarn stash on Ravelry. I didn’t realize I had so much yarn, 20 skeins. I need to get busy. I have one shawl that I plan to knit after my Poncho, and a pair of fingerless mittens, other than that, I have no immediate plans for the rest (note to self – log undyed yarn and poncho yarn – bringing stash total to 29 skeins). 29 skeins of yarn. That got me thinking. I wonder how many other people have. SO, I started digging around and this is what I found “The World’s Biggest Stash“. So what do you think? She wouldn’t even miss 29 skeins. That is unbelievable. I’m definitely ordering my cashmere for my neck-warmer – now I don’t feel guilty. As long as I don’t go over my two allotted totes I’m fine (note to self – add yarn that you have stashed in closet – bringing total to 40). Ok, I know what you are thinking and those 11 skeins are dedicated to a Christmas project. If you read my blog regularly you know that my project is on hold due to a needle foo-pah. LOL. Not LOL about the needles, LOL about the 11 more skeins.
Well tomorrow’s the day. You guessed it! MAIL DAY! I’m hoping my new needles are in there so that I can get busy on this Christmas thing otherwise it’s not going to be finished. I wish I had the luxury of just running right out to my LYS, but here in Belarus we don’t have that luxury. We have a lot of LYS’ but there are several things standing in my way….#1, language barrier. I don’t know how to say #10 circular needles – in Russian. #2, I don’t have the patience to walk to 5 different shops trying to locate these needles. #3 The yarn shops are as big as a bathroom stall with the shop clerk, 2 or 3 бабушки and a bunch of yarn. #4,5&6 It’s cold, the people are rude and I’m already about 13 minutes a day of sun shy of a nervous breakdown – I need my sunshine! There were 7h 24m 53s of daylight today. Daylight, not sunshine. December 22nd is the shortest day, 7h 23m 59s. After that, we are on the upswing.
Oh and my #1 thing I’m waiting for, one of the new John Luskey CD! If you like country music, you’ll love John. I miss the live shows. John, are you up for a gig in Belarus? I’m sure we can make it happen.
December 17, 2007
Well folks, it finally happened. I sat down at my computer this morning, opened my email and there it was…my Ravelry invitation. Yep, that’s right, after a 17 day wait, #64317 on the list, I’m in, and you know what that means…another hour per day on the Internet.
I finished a project today. That’s right, I made GRASS.
They are really fun to make and didn’t take too long. My grass is red, because that’s what yarn I had, but who cares. They are cute.
I also took this picture last night.
I was sitting in the living room annoying Scott with my best rendition of My Faovrite Thingsfrom the Sound of Music. These are a few of my favorite things. Wine and Socks. LOL. This is my first pair of hand made socks a gift from my sister about 5 or 6 years ago. Love em’ (now). I wasn’t too sure about them back then.
