Ummm…NO!

Posted in Journal tagged , , at 1:05 pm by Jenn

I’ll be the first one to admit that I am not as “up” on what’s going on in the US as far as the economical situation as I should be.  I haven’t paid close attention to who has been bailed out and who hasn’t been bailed out.  I will however say right now that if these jokers get bailed out, when one out of every 8 children in the US goes to bed hungry every night then there is something seriously wrong with the US government

I thought is was a joke.  I expected to click and find an amusing story there, but instead, all I found was the single most offensive thing I’ve ever read.

What the hell is Larry Flynt’s problem?  Certainly there is SOMETHING or SOMEONE with a story more newsworthy than this piece of crap.

  1. I’m a bailout hater… not that I have another answer. it seems some hefty strings, possibly giving back of money, maybe jail time, and worse should be attached!!

It’s just disheartening to think that our country is so far in debt, trillions and trillions of dollars yet we somehow can manage to bailout these major corporations with taxpayer money. No one asked me if I minded? No one asked me if I needed bailing out…

They HAD to do that as a joke or some kind of commentary on how everybody is getting bailouts. I didn’t read the details … maybe they’re losing too much business to the Internet. My friend said she didn’t even realize that Larry was still alive, and she might be right.

Larry is definitely still alive. He’s probably around 65 now.

It’s not a joke, but I think his thought behind it is deeper than that, by asking for this bail-out. What he is doing is putting a spotlight on that many are against bailing out a financially innocent company, just because the deal in porn, but applaud bailing out the scumbags who cost them their jobs, homes and who’s greed created the economic crisis in the first place. So the question is: why should we help those who have screwed you (the financial institutes that created the crisis) but not an industry that is actually innocent? Who is “immoral”: a guy who peddles pics of naked people or the ones who through greed created the situation you speak of where 1 out of every 8 children goes to bed hungry every night? And who did the congress bail out with your tax money? Ironic, isnt it, when you think about it.
I believe that is what Flynt and Francis want to achieve: that people actually _think_ about it.

There’s always something more to what Larry Flynt says than what Larry Flynt says, but in the end it all comes down to one thing…what’s best for Larry Flynt. By the way, this hunger in America situation has been going on for DECADES, long before people bought houses with mortgages they would soon not be able to afford.

Wow. Maybe you and I should apply for a bailout. If the porn industry deserves it, then maybe the expats-living-abroad-with-no-money do too.

If Larry Flynt get’s 5 billion for porn then I’m definitely submitting my package.

“but in the end it all comes down to one thing…what’s best for Larry Flynt.”
Well, actually not. He has many time had the option of ducking and avoiding costs, but has instead gone to battle for the sake of what is legally _right_ and not what is best for him. He held a weeks or what, playing a fine of 10.000 dollars a day rather than divulge his sources in a court case! He almost bankrupted himself and the company rather go against his protection of his source of information in that particular case.
Flynt has – to my knowledge – never lost a legal battle, and that is not because he had more or better lawyers, but because he would never give up at any personal cost until what was legally right was accepted.
I totally despise his product, but I must admit I have respect for him when it comes to his back-bone in legal matters.
As he said to the press during a case about freedom of speech: “Remember: If I can prove that the constitution protects a pervert like me, it will absolutely protect you too.”

“By the way, this hunger in America situation has been going on for DECADES, long before people bought houses with mortgages they would soon not be able to afford.”

The reason they would soon not be able to afford them is because of what the financial industry did out of personal greed and no other reason.

USA – like most western countries – have had some pains the past decades from manufacturers and support industry moving to low-cost countries. Actually USA has felt it more than other western countries added by the billions of dollars used in the invasion of Iraq.
There is _always_ ups and downs in the stock market and the economy, but these are mostly mere ripples and sometimes a few waves. But what the financial industry in USA did 2008 is not just a ripple but a full tsunami that has crossed the world and caused great damage to every country in the whole world.
Please, I would humbly suggest that you lift your eyes a bit and also take in news from global sources and not just American sources, so you see what _really_ happened in the world because of these institutes in the USA. Governments in every country have been forced to – over night – produce a crisis-package to try and milden the impact of this economic tsunami created by the US financial industry! Check out how much the stock markets plummeted that day and the following days all over the world!

My eyes are indeed lifted and my news does come from a variety of sources, in fact most of them international given that I live overseas. I’m not as tuned in to the US news as I should be, which I think I mentioned in my post. As for Larry Flynt, whether I agree with the product/industry he represents or his background regarding legal rights is not the issue. I don’t agree that he should be entitled to a bail out. If he is, then I am too and I’ll certainly be filing my application.

This financial crisis my be adding to the problem, but it certainly did not create it. In fact, our Social Security program was started as a means to keep people from starving. It was not intended to be used as a sole source of income for retirement. Here is a link to just one of many sources of information regarding food insecurtiy/hunger in America http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5021812

    PS.
I found a link to a CNN article you might be interested of, about the economy. The graphics speak for themselves.

And this is the full article.
